About Wells Fargo (WFC)

Wells Fargo is one of the largest banks in the United States, heavily focused on consumer and commercial banking, home loans and wealth management. As with any commercial bank, much of its profit comes from the gap between the interest it charges on loans and what it pays on deposits, so it benefits when interest rates are higher.

It trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker WFC and is part of the S&P 500. It is a dividend stock. The bank spent years under restrictions imposed by the regulator following the 2016 scandal over accounts opened without authorisation, restrictions that were gradually lifted as it overhauled its internal controls. As a bank, it is sensitive to the economic cycle and to bad loans.
