About NIO (NIO)
NIO is a Chinese premium electric-car maker founded in 2014. It stands out for its battery-swap stations, which replace a depleted battery with a charged one in a few minutes, and for a model in which customers can subscribe to the battery instead of buying it. It sells mainly in China and has been entering some European markets.
The shares trade in New York under the ticker NIO as an ADR. Its stock-market history is a rollercoaster: the shares nearly collapsed in 2019, multiplied many times over in the 2020 electric-vehicle euphoria and have since given those gains back, trading today below where they were several years ago. The company is still loss-making and pays no dividend.
