About Tesla (TSLA)
Tesla Inc. makes electric vehicles (Model 3, Y, S and X, plus the Cybertruck), energy-storage systems (Powerwall and Megapack) and solar panels, and develops driver-assistance software. Revenue is dominated by the automotive segment, but the energy division has been gaining weight.
Its business model is unusual for the industry: it sells directly to customers, without dealerships, and builds cars in its own "gigafactories" in the United States, Shanghai and Berlin, the production base for Europe. A large part of the investment case rests on bets still to be proven, such as autonomous driving, robotaxis and the Optimus humanoid robot.
It trades on the Nasdaq under TSLA and has been part of the S&P 500 since late 2020. The share price is known for high volatility: it reacts strongly to quarterly delivery figures, growing competition from Chinese carmakers and statements by CEO Elon Musk.
