About AbbVie (ABBV)

AbbVie was created in 2013 when Abbott split off its pharmaceutical business. For years it lived off Humira, a drug for immune-system diseases that became the best-selling medicine in the world. With generic versions ("biosimilars") of Humira arriving from 2023, the company now leans on two successors, Skyrizi and Rinvoq, and on Botox and other products gained through the 2020 acquisition of Allergan.

It trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker ABBV and is part of the S&P 500. It is a dividend stock that inherited Abbott's long track record of increases. The big question for investors is whether the growth of Skyrizi and Rinvoq offsets the lost Humira revenue.
