About Walmart (WMT)
Walmart is the world's largest retailer by revenue, with thousands of hypermarkets and supermarkets, mainly in the United States, plus the Sam's Club warehouse chain and a growing e-commerce and advertising business. Because it sells essential goods at low prices, it is a relatively defensive company that tends to hold up better in recessions.
It trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker WMT and is part of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones indices. It is traditionally a dividend stock, with a long history of annual increases. In February 2024 it carried out a 3-for-1 stock split, which multiplied the number of shares and divided the price by three without changing the value of the investment.
