About UnitedHealth Group (UNH)
UnitedHealth Group is the largest healthcare company in the United States by revenue. It has two engines: UnitedHealthcare, which sells health insurance and plans to individuals, employers and the public Medicare programme, and Optum, which provides health services, pharmacy-benefit management and data analytics. It earns mainly on the gap between the premiums it charges and the medical costs it pays.
It trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker UNH and is part of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones indices. It is a dividend stock. In 2025 the share price fell sharply, pressured by rising medical costs, investigations and regulatory uncertainty around Medicare, before recovering part of the lost ground.
