About ASML

ASML is a Dutch company that makes the lithography machines used to produce semiconductors. It is the only company in the world that makes extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines, which are essential for manufacturing the most advanced chips, giving it a near-monopoly position at a critical stage of the supply chain.

The company is based in the Netherlands, but these securities (ASML) are American depositary receipts (ADRs) listed on the Nasdaq in dollars, representing ASML shares. It is not in the S&P 500 (it is a European company), but it appears in international and technology-sector ETFs.
