About 3M (MMM)
3M is a diversified industrial conglomerate that owns thousands of everyday products — from Post-it notes and Scotch tape to abrasives, adhesives, materials for the automotive and electronics industries and protective and safety equipment. It sells to virtually every sector of the economy, which makes the business a mirror of global industrial activity.
It trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker MMM and is part of the S&P 500 and Dow Jones indices. It is a dividend stock with one of the longest records of increases in the market. In 2024 it spun off its healthcare business, which became a separate company (Solventum). In recent years it faced large lawsuits tied to "forever chemicals" (PFAS) and military earplugs, which led to multi-billion-dollar settlements.
